JUDGEMENT WILL BE DELIVERED ON 1ST OF SEPTEMBER - FINNISH COURT

BRGIE PRIME MINISTER SIMON EKPA

- The Finnish courts have confirmed, in response to enquiries by the Abamake Network that a final judgement in Ekpa's case will be delivered on September 1, 2025.

This timeline, sourced directly from court communications, underscores the independence of Finland's judicial process.

Ekpa, who denies any involvement in violence and frames his activism as a call for Biafran self-determination, continues to symbolize resilience against what many see as transnational repression aided by foreign governments.

Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Biafran dual citizen and "Prime Minister" of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), was arrested in Finland on November 21, 2024, on suspicion of public incitement. The charges stem from allegations from the proscribed Nigerian government that he used social media to promote separatist activities, incite violence in southeastern Nigeria (associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra), and coordinate actions from Finland between August 2021 and November 2024. The Canadian Federal court has since declared the Nigerian ruling party as a terrorist organization making the allegations of the Nigerian government less plausible. Finnish authorities investigated the case, which also initially included suspicions of terrorism financing and aggravated tax fraud (though charges against four co-suspects were dropped due to lack of evidence).

-Formal charges were filed in May 2025 by Finland's Deputy Prosecutor General. A preparatory hearing began on May 30, 2025, at the Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti. The trial lasted several days and was largely public.

Ekpa denied all charges, framing his actions as non-violent advocacy for Biafran independence.

The case highlights tensions between free speech, self-determination rights, and terrorism allegations. Biafrans view it as "transnational repression" by Nigeria influencing Finland.
